Spinal stenosis was the most common diagnosis for both cervical and lumbar spine patients, according to the American Spine Registry’s 2026 report.

The report, released Feb. 26, includes data on cervical and lumbar procedures and outcomes from 2015 to 2024.

Here are the most common lumbar and cervical spine diagnoses:

Lumbar

Spinal stenosis: 60%

Herniated nucleus pulposus or radiculopathy: 33.9%

Spondylolisthesis: 25.6%

Degenerative disc disease or spondylosis: 15%

Other: 9.7%

Degenerative scoliosis: 6.5%

Cervical

Spinal stenosis: 58.5%

Radiculopathy: 42.9%

Myelopathy: 36%

Cervical deformity: 10.4%

Degenerative disc disease or spondylosis: 9.6%

Other: 8.9%
