Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center has completed Florida’s first implantation of the Misha nee system, an FDA-approved implant designed to relieve joint pressure and delay knee replacement surgery.

Orthopedic surgeon Marc Matarazzo, MD, performed the outpatient procedure. The device, a shock absorber placed on the inner knee, reduces peak forces by over 30% and does not require bone cutting or cartilage removal, according to a Feb. 27 news release.

The implant is indicated for patients with medial knee osteoarthritis who have not responded to conservative treatment but are not yet candidates for total knee replacement.
