U of Utah surgeons complete 1st procedure with Reverse ChondroMatch system

Surgeons at the University of Utah performed the first patient procedure with the Reverse ChondroMatch system to repair cartilage lesions. 

The system is the first arthroscopic, retrograde osteochondral allograft tool that is designed for 8-14 mm lesions and allows surgeons to repair cartilage and bone from inside the joint using small incisions, according to a Dec. 4 news release from the university. 

The first case involved a cartilage defect on the tibial surface of a patient’s knee. 

By only using small incisions, tissue disruption can be reduced and recovery time can be sped up. 

The Reverse ChondroMatch was developed by the University of Utah’s Orthopaedic Innovation Center, the release said.
