The American Medical Association released its CPT 2026 code set, which includes the new CPT code 63032 fr bone-anchored annular closure, Intrinsic Therapeutics said Oct. 24.

The new add-on CPT code describes the adjunctive placement of a bone-anchored annular closure device, such as the devicemaker’s Barricaid, after lumbar discectomy in patients with large annular defects, according to a news release. The code’s descriptor reads “with repair of annular defect by implantation of bone-anchored annular closure device, including all imaging guidance, 1 interspace, lumbar (list separately in addition to code for primary procedure).”

In 2024 Barricaid earned a Category 1 CPT code from the AMA.

“Surgeons will now be able to code for the specific work of repairing an annular defect and implanting Barricaid following a discectomy,” April Spillane, vice president of health economics at Intrinsic Therapeutics, said in the release. “It is my sincere hope that this development will increase patient access to Barricaid.”
