The consortium will include medical research, engineering, materials science, brain studies and imaging tools to study concussions and provide better patient care, according to the report. The consortium will be co-directed by Adam Bartsch, a mechanical engineer and head of the Clinic’s Head, Neck and Spine Research Laboratory, and Vikas Prakash, a mechanical and aerospace engineering professor at Case Western.
The consortium will also include a linear impactor to help measure impact on the human head. The researchers hope to better understand concussions, which could lead to better helmets for athletes and military personnel.
