Chris Ahmad, MD, performed shoulder surgery on Anthony Volpe, the shortstop for the New York Yankees on Oct. 14.

The procedure was to repair a partially torn labrum in Mr. Volpe’s left shoulder, according to an Oct. 15 news release from mlb.com.

Mr. Volpe was dealing with a shoulder issue for most of the season following the initial injury during a game May 3. He received two cortisone injections throughout the season to treat the injury.

It is possible that Mr. Volpe will be fully recovered by the start of the 2026 MLB season, but the team has yet to confirm the news.

Dr. Ahmad is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist. He is the chief of sports medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and serves as the head team physician for the Yankees.
