University Orthopedics adds hand-to-shoulder surgeon in Rhode Island

East Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics has added hand-to-shoulder surgeon Matthew Akelman, MD, to its team of specialists.

Dr. Akelman, a Rhode Island native, treats conditions across the upper extremity, including nerve compression, tendon disorders, arthritis and traumatic injuries. He specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopy, joint replacement and fracture fixation, according to a Sept. 30 system news release. 

Outside of practice, he serves as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence.

He will see patients at University Orthopedics’ Cranston, Cumberland and East Providence locations in Rhode Island.
