Keith Meister, MD, performed elbow surgery on Liam Hendriks, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, in Arlington, Texas on Sept. 29.
Dr. Meister completed a right elbow ulnar nerve transposition with posterior interosseous nerve release on Mr. Hendriks, according to a Sept. 29 news release from the Red Sox.
The team expects Mr. Hendriks to return to pitching at some point during the 2026 MLB season, but there is no set recovery timeline at this point.
Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.
