Duluth, Ga.-based Northside Hospital Orthopedics became the first provider in the state to use the Misha knee system, an FDA-approved implant for patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis.
Timilehin Wusu, MD, performed the procedure last month on a 54-year-old woman, according to a Sept. 11 news release.
The implant, produced by Moximed, acts as a shock absorber to reduce peak knee forces by more than 30% with each step. It is designed for patients with knee OA who are not ready for total knee replacement.
The release further claims the device provides active patients with relief from knee pain, helping them maintain their lifestyle, according to the release.
