Anthony Giuffrida, MD, of The Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in Fort Lauderdale, performed the first basivertebral nerve ablation using Stryker’s Optiblate system in South Florida.

His patient was a 73-year-old man with chronic axial low back pain and Modic changes, according to an email shared with Becker’s. After exhausting conservative treatment, Dr. Giuffrida performed the BVNA with the help of John Gallagher, III, MD.

“Having access to multiple BVNA systems allows us to choose the best approach for each patient based on their anatomy and diagnosis,” Dr. Guiffrida said. “That flexibility helps us deliver more personalized care and ultimately drive better outcomes.”
