Scientists from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne monitored chronic pain patients by placing sensors on their chests, knees and ankles to measure movement levels. The study revealed, not surprisingly, that chronic pain patients moved differently than healthy patients and required more frequent periods of rest.
Researchers collected sensor data over the course of several days, developing a visual bar code for each patient that physicians can use to assess pain, make a diagnosis and decide on appropriate therapy.
