Patients who had undergone elective spinal surgery with preoperative education were retrospectively analyzed. Of the 155 patients surveyed, 49 percent attended the PE class while 50 percent did not.
Key findings include:
• Ninety-six percent of patients who attended the PE class were satisfied with their pain management versus 83 percent in a control group;
• Ninety-one percent of patients were satisfied with the PE class;
• The elderly patients were less satisfied with pain management and overall treatment.
