The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine has installed Eric McCarty, MD, as president for a one-year term.
Dr. McCarty has been a member of the Colorado University Athletics sports medicine department for more than 20 years, currently serving as director of sports medicine, according to a July 30 news release from the university.
He also serves as medical director and head team physician for the Colorado Avalanche, a team in the National Hockey League.
Dr. McCarty has been a member of the AOSSM since 1999 and has previously held multiple leadership positions within the organization.
The AOSSM represents more than 4,200 orthopedic surgeons and other healthcare professionals, the release said.
