This will be a revision surgery for Gov. Perry, who originally had surgery in 2009 after a bicycle accident. The first procedure healed improperly, which prompted the second surgery performed by Dr. Malone.

Gov. Perry will be temporarily unable to perform his duties during the 90-minute outpatient procedure and recovery; therefore, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst will step into that role until Gov. Perry is able to return to service.
