The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine in Edinburg has established its first endowed chair in orthopedic surgery, named the Subram G. Krishnan MD and Sumant “Butch” Krishnan MD Endowed Chair.

The chair is funded by. Subram Krishnan, MD, and Elizabeth Krishnan, MD, who previously endowed three other chairs at UTRGV, including one in neuroscience, according to a July 18 news release.

The endowment aims to enhance orthopedic care in the Rio Grande Valley by supporting recruitment and retention of top surgeons and advancing medical education at the school.

Dr. Sumant Krishnan, the donors’ son, will serve as the inaugural chairholder.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
