Stephen Courtney, MD, founder of Eminent Spine, completed the first case using the company’s  3D-printed pedicle screw system, according to a July 16 news release.

The milestone case was performed at Eminent Hospital in Richardson, Texas. Dr. Courtney used the 3D-printed titanium screw for a patient with degenerative lumbar pathology who needed spinal stabilization.

Eminent Spine’s screw is the first of its kind to be used in clinical cases. It was made with a proprietary lattice technology to optimize bone ingrowth, enhance mechanical stability and improve fixation.
