Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital integrated HipInsight 2.0 to improve total hip replacement procedures, according to a July 7 report from Sarasota Herald-Tribune

The HipInsight 2.0 is the first mixed reality navigation system to optimize total hip replacements that is approved by the FDA.

Edward Stolarski, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the hospital, is leading the implementation of the system. He has performed more than 100 hip replacements using the system.

The system overlays 3D holograms of the patient’s pelvis onto the hip during surgery, helping orthopedic surgeons customize implant placement and verify accuracy.

In more complex cases, such as hip dysplasia, HipInsight 2.0 leads to more precise implant placement, the report said.
