Spine speaker spotlight: Dr. Sonia Eden

Sonia Eden, MD, has been a leader in minimally invasive spine and neurosurgery.

In 2021, she was appointed head of adult neurosurgery at Detroit Medical Center, the first Black woman to hold the role, and second to lead a U.S. hospital neurosurgery program. She was also elected interim chair of neurosurgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.

Currently she’s a neurosurgeon with Semmes Murphey Clinic in Oxford, Miss., where she also completed a minimally invasive spine fellowship under Kevin Foley, MD. Dr. Eden earned her medical degree and completed her residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Along with her clinical work she’s an advocate for health equity and is a founding member of the American Society of Black Neurosurgeons. 

Dr. Eden is speaking at Becker’s 22nd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, set for June 19-21 at the Swissotel Chicago.
