Plano (Texas) Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center has partnered with the Hurt! app to provide patients access to 24-hour orthopedic care, according to a June 1 LinkedIn post.
The Hurt! app aims to provide patients with 24/7 access to virtual orthopedic care and spare them costly emergency room visits. It offers patients guidance and support with no paywalls or subscriptions.
Approximately 90% of orthopedic-related ER trips are unnecessary, according to Hurt!
The partnership with Plano marks a larger milestone, being Hurt!’s 65th practice.
“HURT! has become a national movement in the musculoskeletal space. In three short years, we have more orthopedic surgeons on our platform than all others combined. We just signed our 65th practice in 43 states with another 40 practices in the pipeline,” Brett Miller, MD, founder of Hurt! and partner and orthopedic surgeon at the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, Told Becker’s. “Barry Howell, CEO of Plano Orthopedics, identified HURT! as an immediate solution to help solve their patient access problem. As a smaller practice near a major hub of orthopedic surgeons, Mr. Howell saw an opportunity to leverage technology and use HURT! as their virtual orthopedic urgent care center when their offices are closed.”
“Around 82% of all cases managed by HURT! occur after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Even practices with orthopedic urgent care have limited hours. HURT! has found a market fit by supporting practices when they are closed. Our core mission will always be to support orthopedic practices, but we have developed solutions for self-funded employers, workers’ compensation, physical therapy, chiropractors, MSK wellness and orthopedic marketing. In addition to our ever-expanding and unmatched technology, most people don’t know that we have a full-scale in-house orthopedic marketing team. We have built our company to be a comprehensive solution for the entire musculoskeletal ecosystem.”
The platform plans to grow even more in the next year by leveraging new partnerships and the ongoing expansion of artificial intelligence.
In a June 1 LinkedIn post, Dr. Miller teased that Hurt! just closed its “biggest deal of all time,” with more details to come.
“In 2025, HURT! fully committed to developing AI for our technology-enabled platform. We have hired additional engineers and will be leveraging our clinical expertise to explore and lead the AI revolution in orthopedics. The responsible deployment of AI in orthopedics can help patients beyond our current comprehension,” Dr. Miller told Becker’s. “We imagine immediate, precise, and consistent triage, with diagnosis, and treatment recommendations delivered at a fraction of the cost. We are also building new technology around predictive analytics. Not only will self-funded employers have access to instantaneous care, they will know what it’s going to cost from the onset.”
