Keith Meister, MD, is set to perform elbow surgery on Justin Steele, a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, on April 18.
The specific nature of the procedure is unknown at this time, but Dr. Meister will repair the flexor tendon and address the ulnar collateral ligament in Mr. Steele’s left elbow, according to an April 13 news release from mlb.com.
Mr. Steele experienced left elbow tendinitis at the end of the 2024 MLB season and had a flare up during a game April 7.
The surgery will cause Mr. Steele to miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers.
