Dr. Judith Baumhauer in New York Receives Athena Award for Leadership

Judith F. Baumhauer, MD, a professor and associate chair of academic affairs in the orthopedics department at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center, was named the winner of the 26th annual Athena Award, according to a medical center news release.

The award honors achievements of outstanding and professional business women, denoting achievement within the community, professional excellence and assistance to help develop professional excellence and leadership among other women.

Dr. Baumhauer was the first female president of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association and is the first female president of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. She is also the first female director and president-elect of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. During her career, Dr. Baumhauer was the first female faculty member in the URMC foot and ankle department and has served as a volunteer surgeon in Vietnam.
