Nevro’s SI joint fusion system advantageous compared to other approaches: Study

The Nevro1 sacroiliac joint fusion system was found to be superior compared to posterolateral and lateral approaches, Nevro said Nov. 18.

Five notes:

1. Nevro1 is a posterior integrated transfixation cage system. The study compared it to a posterolateral cylindrical threaded single-implant system.

2. The study found Nevro1 and lateral triangular rods produced equivalent motion reduction in all motion planes. It also was equivalent in osteopenic bone compared to a lateral triangular rod system.

3. Nevro1 allowed the most surface area for fusion in sacroiliac cases.

4. “This study demonstrates the advantages of the posterior integrated cage system that spans the SI joint to stabilize it and to address pain associated with SI joint dysfunction,” Douglas Beall, MD, said in the release. “The Nevro1 device represents a significant advancement in SI joint fusion, offering greater fixation with increased fusion potential, and minimal bone removal compared to other options I have for my patients.”

5. The full study was published by Medical Devices: Evidence and Research.
