The largest commercial payer in New Jersey, representing over 2.3 million people, has expanded positive coverage for both 1- and 2-level lumbar total disc replacement procedures, which includes prodisc L, while the largest commercial payer in the Philadelphia tri-state area, representing over 850,000 people, has established coverage for both 1- and 2-level lumbar disc replacement procedures, according to a Nov. 14 press release.
The policy expansion went into effect Nov. 1 in New Jersey and Oct. 20 in Philadelphia.
With new coverage in the mid-Atlantic region, commercial coverage in the U.S. for 1-level lumbar total disc replacement is estimated to have grown from 50% of covered lives in 2017 to nearly 95% today, according to the release.
Two-level total lumbar disc replacement is now covered by over 35% of commercial payers in the U.S.
