Orthopedic surgeons are required to have at least 120 approved CME credits during the three years before the MOC credentialing exam. The OITE qualifies as an approved credit category, allowing fellows of AAOS to meet the 20 self-assessment examination requirement with the single test.
In 2011, the OITE included 275 multiple choice questions with a focus on the fundamentals of orthopedics.
