1. New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery announced a $12 million multiyear gift from billionaire Kenneth Griffin. The $12 million gift from Mr. Griffin will establish the Kenneth C. Griffin Research Accelerator for orthopedics. The gift will also support construction of the HSS Kellen Tower, which is expected to open in 2025.
2. A $3.75 million gift was given to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in memory of orthopedic surgeon Ronald Hinds, MD. Dr. Hinds died one year ago at the age of 89. His daughter, Julie Franklin, and son-in-law, Martin Franklin, made the gift to establish the Dr. Ronald B. Hinds Department of Medicine Endowed Chair. The endowed chair will support research efforts of a senior faculty member in the school’s department of medicine.
