Richard Guyer, MD, of the Texas Back Institute, and Damirez Fossett, MD, of Howard University Hospital, performed the debut cases, according to a news release. Dr. Guyer used the new retractor for a 2-level cervical disc replacement, and Dr. Fossett performed a 5-level posterior cervical laminectomy.

The new single-use retractors are radiolucent and can help improve efficiency and reduce infection risk.
