The award is voted on by sports medicine staff at all 14 schools in the Southeastern Conference, annually rotating between recognizing an orthopedic surgeon and a primary care physician.
The award is sponsored by the Southern Orthopedic Association and includes a $1,000 donation in the surgeon’s name to the sports medicine department of the physician’s university.
Dr. Farmer has worked as team physician for the Gators since 2009.
He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Academy for Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American College of Sports Medicine and the Florida Orthopaedic Society, where he serves on the board of directors.
