2 Hospital for Special Surgery milestones

Becker’s has reported on two orthopedic surgery milestones from New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery since Dec. 1.

1. HSS reached 16,500 cases using the OrthAlign navigation device. OrthAlign is handheld and is used for component positioning in total and partial hip and knee replacements.Twenty-five surgeons at HSS use the technology.

2. Frank Cammisa, MD, completed the first augmented reality-assisted spine surgery at HSS. He performed a spinal decompression and fusion on a 28-year-old man using AR. His case was also the first AR-guided spine surgery in New York state.
