Mr. Neal injured his knee at training camp in August, although there was no ligament damage reported in three MRI tests. When the swelling in his knee didn’t go down, Dr. McKenzie performed arthroscopic surgery and removed damaged cartilage.

Mr. Neal hopes to return to play by Oct. 30.
