5 spine, orthopedic surgeons honored in Q1

Becker’s reported on five spine and orthopedic surgeons earning awards and honors in the first quarter of 2022:

1. Spine surgeon Nitin Khanna, MD, received two lifetime achievement awards from Vitals: the 2021 Vitals Patients’ Choice Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2021 Vitals Compassionate Doctor Lifetime Achievement Award.

2. Keith Feder, MD, earned the AAOS Humanitarian Award. Dr. Feder was recognized for more than 25 years of service, and he founded the West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation.

3. Cato Laurencin, MD, PhD, earned the AAOS Diversity Award. He was the second Black chair at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

4. Andrew Gurman, MD, earned the AAOS William W. Tipton Jr., MD, Leadership Award. He is one of two orthopedic surgeons to be named president of the American Medical Association.

5. Martha Murray, MD, and her research team earned the 2022 Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation’s Clinical Research Award for outstanding clinical research related to musculoskeletal disease or injury.
