One significant strength of the management service organization is its ability to recruit from its four fellowship programs that train 18 physicians and surgeons each year.

Three spine surgeons, a total joint surgeon and a pain management physician are set to join the USOP platform within the next year. Here is a breakdown of the growth at four USOP practices:

Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center (Jackson)

– Affiliated with USOP in October 2020, with 18 orthopedic surgeons
– Added pain management specialists — Carroll McLeod, MD, and Jeremy Smitherman, MD — in February
– Added total joint surgeon, Matt Young, MD, in August
– Plans to hire a spine surgeon for 2023

Oxford (Miss.) Orthopaedics

– A spine surgeon has signed to start in August
– A total joint surgeon has signed to start in 2023

Orthopaedic Institute of North Mississippi (Tupelo)

– Added total joint surgeon Jeb Williams, MD, in August
– Added hand surgeon Elizabeth Gibson, MD, in August

Northern Alabama Bone and Joint Surgeons (Florence)

– Affiliated with USOP in July with seven orthopedic surgeons
– A spine surgeon hire is planned for 2023
– A pain management physician hire is planned for 2022

“By adding new doctors to our partner practices, we are able to satisfy increased patient demand and build out the full spectrum of musculoskeletal services. This has been a key factor in our growth strategy,” Louis McIntyre, MD, of USOP said in a January news release. “Since our inception in 2020, we have found success in this process and look forward to bringing our quality care to more communities that would benefit from our services.”
