Florida practice investigating ransomware attack

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Jax Spine and Pain Centers is probing a January ransomware attack involving patient data files, News 4 Jax reported Feb. 11.

The data breach affected patient files created before May 2018, according to a notice from the practice. The attack was Jan. 24.

The hackers threatened to publish the stolen files online unless a ransom was paid, the practice said. The practice notified the FBI and shut down the affected server.

An investigation is ongoing.
