Researchers studied 45 patients who experienced at least three episodes of lateral patellar dislocation and underwent a six month rehabilitation protocol before undergoing surgery. All patients were involved in regular athletic activity.

No patients experienced patella dislocation after surgery. The pain scores improved significantly postoperatively and 64 percent of the patients were able to return to the same sports at their regular level. Approximately 36 percent of patients returned to a lower level of activity or changed sports.

Eighty-seven percent of the patients were satisfied or very satisfied with the procedure.
