Smart glasses supplier will support Medacta’s AR technology

Vuzix, a company that supplies smart glasses, will support Medacta’s augmented reality surgical platform.

Medacta’s NextAR uses a preoperative scan to create a personalized biomechanical model for surgeries, according to a June 9 news release. Vuzix’s Blade smart glasses have been used to complete the first smart glasses-based total knee replacement in the U.S. in 2020.

NextAR has been approved by the FDA for shoulder and knee applications. In May, NextAR received the European Union’s CE marking for spine, shoulder and knee surgery.
