4 female orthopedic surgeons named to leadership positions

Over the past month, Becker’s has reported on four female orthopedic surgeons who have been elected to leadership roles:

1. Susan Bukata, MD, was named chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at University of California San Diego School of Medicine and UC San Diego Health. She is the fourth woman to lead a health system’s orthopedic surgery department in the U.S., according to UCLA.

2. Theresa Wyrick, MD, was appointed vice chair for faculty development in the orthopedic surgery department at Little Rock-based University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine.

3. April Armstrong, MD, was named chair of the department of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine. 

4. Michelle Caird, MD, became chair of Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine’s orthopedic surgery department.
