Study: Multi-Level Decompressions Safe for Spinal Stenosis Patients Using Hinge Osteotomy Technique

Multi-level lumbar spinal stenosis can be safely treated with decompression using the unilateral approach with the hinge osteotomy technique, according to a report published in Spine.

Researchers studied 120 patients with degenerative and/or congenital lumbar stenosis who underwent central and bilateral canal decompression using the hinge osteotomy technique. There were 118 patients who had a successful surgical outcome.

All outcome criteria was improved significantly after surgery, with further improvement three years postoperatively. During the three-year follow-up, there wasn’t any evidence of progressive lumbar segmental instability.
