‘A turning point’ — HSS logs 1st COVID-19 vaccine

The first COVID-19 vaccination at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery was administered to Ann Bienstock, an advanced practice nurse, according to HSS President and CEO Lou Shapiro.

Ms. Bienstock serves as manager of HSS Occupational Health Services. Her inoculation on Dec. 14 against the coronavirus marked “a turning point” for HSS and a “monumental moment” in the organization’s history, Mr. Shapiro said.

“Although we still have a long road ahead, HSS was proud to join all members of the New York healthcare community in celebrating this historic milestone,” Mr. Shapiro wrote in a Dec. 14 LinkedIn post. “I couldn’t be prouder of what HSS and all healthcare heroes have accomplished over these long and difficult months, but we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel — and the other side of the mountain.”
