The man was attending an office visit at Lakelands Orthopaedic Clinic in Greenwood, which offers orthopedic surgical services as well as physical and occupational therapy.

His wrists were cuffed to a chain around his waist, but he did not have ankle cuffs on, which jail policy requires when transporting inmates out of the facility.

The man was charged with escape, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. He is awaiting trial on charges that include kidnapping, armed robbery and assault and battery.
