Dr. Keith Meister schedules Angels reliever for Tommy John surgery: 3 details

Keith Meister, MD, is scheduled to operate on Los Angeles Angels reliever Justin Anderson July 22 in Texas, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Meister will perform Tommy John surgery to repair Mr. Anderson’s torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

2. Dr. Meister will reinforce Mr. Anderson’s elbow tissue with a muscle, as opposed to replacing the torn ligament with a tendon from elsewhere in the body.

3. Dr. Meister is an orthopedic surgeon and the director of Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedics in Arlington. He also serves as head team physician for the Texas Rangers.
