Dr. Pierce Nunley completes 1st case in multilevel degenerative disc disease trial

Spine surgeon Pierce Nunley, MD, performed the first procedure in a clinical trial examining the efficacy of a posterior cervical stabilization system in patients with three-level degenerative disc disease.

1. Developed by spinal implant manufacturer Providence Medical Technology, PCSS achieves bilateral facet fixation by bridging the interspace with points of fixation at the ends of the construct.

2. The study aims to show that circumferential cervical fusion achieves superior clinical outcomes versus anterior cervical discectomy and fusion in the treatment of three-level cervical degenerative disc disease.

3. Dr. Nunley is director of the Spine Institute of Louisiana in Shreveport, La.
