Dr. Michael McDermott named chief medical executive of Miami Neuroscience Institute

Neurosurgeon Michael McDermott, MD, on April 30 was appointed chief medical executive of Miami Neuroscience Institute, formerly Baptist Health Neuroscience Center, P&T Community reports.

Dr. McDermott joins from the neurosurgery department at the University of California San Francisco, where he served as professor and vice chairman of neurological surgery and co-director of the Gamma Knife and CyberKnife radiosurgery program.

At UCSF, Dr. McDermott conducted leading research that led to more than 400 peer-reviewed publications.

He specializes in the treatment of neurological disorders, including brain metastases, skull base tumors and spinal cord tumors.

In his new role, Dr. McDermott will be responsible for developing the neuroscience program  and making the neuroscience institute a destination for care.
