3 spine, orthopedic surgeons returning to work after beating COVID-19

Over the past month, Becker’s Spine Review has reported on three spine and orthopedic surgeons who have beat the virus and are doing their part to help their communities.

Neurosurgeon Ezriel Kornel, MD, is back working at a New York hospital after recovering from the coronavirus, and has volunteered to be on-call at the ICU to support his colleagues treating COVID-19 patients.

Spine surgeon Jim Sanfilippo, MD, of Reconstructive Orthopedics in Sewell, N.J., recovered from the virus and is now raising funds for The Food Bank of South Jersey to help give back to his community.

Scott Smith, MD, a 54-year-old orthopedic surgeon, returned to work at Texas Orthopedics in Austin days after being discharged from a hospital for intensive COVID-19 treatment.
