Opponents of the hospital’s decision say that decision of the hospital to recruit the new surgeon led to unfair competition with local orthopedics groups’ recruitment efforts. Additionally, trustees did not discuss the hiring of the new orthopedist until after they had voted on the decision, and many say the decision went against the hospital’s own community needs assessment, according to the report.

Supporters of the decision to hire a new orthopedist say that there is a need and that the hire is a "good business decision."

Physicians are asking board members to reconsider the decision, saying that it represented a betrayal of recruitment policies local physicians made with the hospital.
