Steven Wiener, MD, operated on Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun March 9, stabilizing his fractured jaw, MLB.com reports.

What you should know:

1. Mr. Calhoun was hit in the mouth by a pitch thrown by Los Angeles Dodgers starter Julio Urias March 8.

2. He was taken to Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where he was examined by Dr. Wiener. Dr. Wiener then inserted a metal plate into Mr. Calhoun’s jaw to stabilize the break.

3. Dr. Wiener is a private practice plastic surgeon in Arizona. He serves as medical director of the inpatient wound program at Plaza Healthcare in Scottsdale, Ariz.
