At the 2010 midterm elections, 20 physicians were elected to serve as members of Congress. The goal of AAOS and the other specialty societies that sponsored a Physician Specialty Candidate Workshop in Washington, D.C., was to prepare motivated physicians for public service. The workshop will including campaign tips and strategies, instructions on fundraising, information about polling and discussion about communication through a variety of media outlets.
The workshop will also feature insight from the physicians who are already in political office and discuss the leverage physician candidates have as caregivers in their communities. Five AAOS members were in attendance.
