Dr. Neal ElAttrache to perform elbow surgery on Giants’ Pablo Sandoval

Neal ElAttrache, MD, will likely perform elbow surgery on San Francisco Giants slugger Pablo Sandoval, according to ESPN News.

Four key notes:

1. Dr. ElAttrache evaluated Mr. Sandoval last week. The third baseman was placed on the injured list retroactive to Aug. 11 with elbow inflammation.

2. After the examination, Dr. ElAttrache recommended ulnar collateral ligament repair. ESPN reported the procedure could occur on Sept. 3 or 4.

3. Dr. ElAttrache will perform the surgery, nicknamed Tommy John surgery after the first athlete to undergo the procedure and return to professional baseball.

4. After surgery, Mr. Sandoval plans to recover in the Miami area, where he will see physical therapists during the offseason.
