The study was conducted with 158 patients who were treated at 24 centers across the country. There were 102 patients who received PEG hydrogel spinal sealant and 56 who underwent closes with additional sutures and/or fibrin gel.
The patients who received the PEG hydrogel spinal sealant achieved watertight closure 100 percent of the time, compared to 64 percent of the time in the other group. The gel was approved by the FDA late last year.
