Four insights:
1. Baricaid is intended for patients with pain and pinched nerves affiliated with disc herniation in the lumbar spine where traditional treatment has not worked. The patients typically have annular defects that are at risk of recurring herniation.
2. The device features an occlusion component consisting of woven polyester and a titanium bone anchor, connecting it to the vertebral body.
3. Baricaid was developed to prevent the recurrence of disc herniation by stopping defects in the annulus fibrosis.
4. A multicenter randomized trial revealed about a 50 percent decrease in the recurrence of symptomatic herniation during discectomy with Baricaid compared to traditional discectomy.
