Three things to know:
1. The company’s ExcelsiusGPS Robotic navigation system achieved a 99 percent screw placement success rate with no malpositions or postoperative returns to the OR related to screw placement.
2. The study, published in the Journal of Robotic Surgery, examined how the device combined the ability to use three imaging workflows — pre-op CT, post-op CT and fluoroscopy — to accurately place pedicle screws.
3. Surgeon placed 562 screws across six vertebral levels during 55 single-position lateral, 16 anterior and 29 posterior interbody fusions, illustrating the versatility of the system for different approaches.
“ExcelsiusGPS enables surgeons to perform minimally invasive screw fixation with the patient remaining in the lateral position compared to traditional lateral approaches where the patient is intraoperatively repositioned prone,” said Kade T. Huntsman, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon at Salt Lake Orthopaedic Clinic in Salt Lake City.
