Massachusetts hospital opens spine center — 3 insights

Springfield, Mass.-based Mercy Medical Center opened the Minimally Invasive Spine Center of New England on its main campus, The Republican reports.

1. Mercy tapped Frederik Pennings, MD, to lead the center.

2. Center physicians will perform minimally invasive spine and neck procedures at the center, which is part of Mercy’s Neurosurgical Institute.

3. Dr. Pennings previously served as director of minimally invasive spine surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.

MMC President Mark Fulco said Dr. Pennings is a “brilliant surgeon with extensive experience in minimally invasive spine surgery.”
